“Lúmina” is a composition that intertwines travel recordings with fragments of anime, constructing an imaginary world where memory and fiction intersect, a borderless space that emerges with the fluidity of a dream, where the everyday is transformed and the imaginary acquires the texture of the real.

Among these recordings are sounds from my journey to Nuevo Rocafuerte, a small town in the Ecuadorian Amazon on the banks of the Napo River, near the border with Peru. I arrived there after a 15-hour boat trip, surrounded by rain, birds, and the calls of exotic animals that became my companions.

In this work, I reflect on the interaction between soundscapes, human presence, and daily life—considering sound as both a form of communication and a way of constructing meaning in space and time. By listening to the town as if it were an instrument, with its own parameters of pitch, rhythm, intensity, timbre, and duration, these recordings merge with other sonic materials to create a dynamic and mutable soundscape.

Based in Buenos Aires  and born in Ambato, Ecuador, Ana Gamboa is a cellist, composer, and sound artist whose work explores the hybridity of acoustic and electronic practices. Since 2018, she has been building a personal archive of sounds from her travels across Latin America, intertwining them with collaborative improvisation and experimental composition. Her practice investigates memory, identity, and the imaginary through sound.
